New York newspaper: Jokowi Clean Radical Islam in Indonesia
President Joko Widodo's efforts to eradicate mass organizations or radical Islamic groups received world attention. The form of attention is reflected in a caricature published by The New York Times media.
Seen on the website of The New York Times, the caricature is entitled 'Heng on Indonesia's Decree to Ban Radical Groups'. This caricature appears in the rubric of opinion. The caricature was drawn by cartoonist Heng Kim Song from Singapore and published on The New York Times website on Sunday (16/7/2017).
Pictured, Jokowi was carrying fluid in a container that was sprayed into the wild plants. The container is painted with poison and wild plants looking to attack Jokowi. And the plant is named 'radical islamist'.
"President Joko Widodo signed a decree allowing authorities to disband religious and civil society groups in an effort to counter violent Islamic groups opposed to pluralist rule," The New York Times wrote in a caricature statement.
The seriousness of the government in combating anti-Pancasila groups or mass organizations is seen from the issuance of the Perppu on anti-Pancasila mass organizations. Jokowi explicitly declared not allowing mass organizations or individuals who abuse the freedoms provided to replace Pancasila.
"I say no, we should not let those who openly want to replace Pancasila, want to undermine the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, undermine the democracy of this country No," said Jokowi when giving speech at the inauguration of the State Defense Academy (ABN) by NasDem Party in the region Pancoran, South Jakarta, Sunday (16/7).
