Unexpectedly, Israel Funding Syrian Rebels

Themoderatemuslims.blogspot.co.id - News of Israeli hospitals treating Syrian rebels has been circulating, but a Wall Street Journal report revealed that Israel is funding the rebels, even the rebels say they "will not survive" without the aid.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Israel has been quietly providing assistance to Syrian rebels in the Golan Heights for many years, with the aim of maintaining friendship strength in the buffer zone, keeping ISIS and troops aligned with Iran at bay.

Such support is substantial and direct.
According to the report, support was provided in the form of cash, food, fuel and medical supplies. In fact some armed groups and most civilians in the region depend on Israeli aid.

The Wall Street Journal report is based on findings and information provided by half a dozen rebels and three people familiar with Israeli thought.
They say that Israel's secret deal with the rebels began in early 2013 under former Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon and continues to exist to this day. The goal, to keep a pro-Iranian group, like Hezbollah, away from the border.

These sources told the Wall Street Journal that a special unit was carved out of the Israeli army to oversee the relief operation. In addition, Israel is said to have considered the situation quite far in advance so as to establish a special budget to be invested in the effort.

The rebels in Syria told The Wall Street Journal that Fursan al-Joulan (Knights of the Golan) is the main group coordinating with Israel and receiving funds of about 5,000 dollars a month, but the group does not receive support from other Western countries and is not affiliated By Syrian army.

"Israel stands on our side in a heroic way.We will not survive without Israeli assistance," group spokesman Moatasem al-Golani told the Wall Street Journal.

Al-Golani said that cooperation began when the wounded fighters from among the group managed to reach the Israeli border, where they called for help from Israeli soldiers who spoke Arabic. The wounded were medically treated in Israel, as well as opening the secret channel.
